There are five main routes in the city covering 9.4 square miles: Interstate 35W and 694, U.S. Highway 10, Minnesota Highway 51, and County Highway 96. With its central location between Minneapolis and St. Paul, typical commute times are only 20 minutes. Its closest neighbors include Roseville, Shoreview, and New Brighton.

The City was incorporated in 1951. Approximately one-third of the City’s land (approximately 4 square miles, 2,370 acres) was owned by the federal government, who operated the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant (TCAAP), built to support WWII and subsequent munitions needs. In the mid-1990s, the U.S. Army formally declared 585 acres of this land in the southwest corner as excess, 430 acres for private redevelopment and the remainder for green space and other local public use. The remaining 1,785 acres continue to be used by the Army and the Army Reserve as a training site.*

Arden Hills is a city of professionals with its top employers being Land O’ Lakes (national headquarters) Boston Scientific, and Smith Medical. It is also unique in that it is a city of artists. Arden Hills has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Arden Hills charming character.

Arden Hills offers excellent educational institutes from pre-school to college. The education of the children in the community is of great importance, as evidenced by the amount work and effort by teachers and parents put into the Mounds View Public School K-12 system (#621). Known for its academic excellence, Mounds View is continually ranked as a top district with above average reading and math test scores. Mounds View High school was named a Bronze for Best High School by US NEWS. There is also special education centers available as well as two private colleges: Bethel University and Northwestern. The city has 14 beautiful parks and 7 lakes for outdoor enthusiasts with over 100 acres in total. Lake Johanna and Lake Josephine are two of the seven lakes in the area.
